The tension built when reading the first few chapters of George’s Marvellous Medicine. The students couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.
Norham class interviewed ‘Grandma’ to find out the answers to all the questions they had. They found out that she grew up in a hamlet called ‘Nasty’ and her favourite food growing up was slugs on lettuce.
They made up names for the different ingredients that George could have used in the medicine and created labels for the bottles.
Once they discovered the effects of the medicine on Grandma they made ‘growing Grandma’ and thought of words to describe what she looked like.
All the way through the students loved guessing what was going to happen next.
“I like that George made a new medicine.”
“Writing the recipe for Grandma’s new medicine was my favourite bit of work.”
“The best bit of the story is when Grandma cracked through the roof.”
