NCEA Castle School

Who we are

Castle School is a specialist provision for children and young people with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. At Castle School, we aim to:
  • Be a happy, safe, caring environment for all our pupils and staff.
  • Be a friendly and stimulating environment where learning is fun and interesting.
  • Provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum appropriate to the needs of each child or young person, taught and assessed through individual learning programmes.
  • Provide relevant opportunities and experiences out of the Academy to help our young people understand being part of a wider community.
  • Develop the self esteem, self awareness and confidence of each of our pupils.
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals.

" If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."

" Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand. Step back and I will act."

Chinese Proverb

" Some of the most wonderful people are the ones who don’t fit into boxes."

Let’s Get Social

Red 3 celebrated #WorldBookDay by showing that reading can be enjoyed 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆!

Pupils were spotted reading all around school — showing that a good book can be enjoyed in the most unexpected places.

Meet our School Council!
This year, the Council are focusing on sustainability and encouraging positive habits by reusing and recycling materials wherever possible
On World Book Day, members of the council visited classes to help pupils create bookmarks using recycled materials.

Pupils from our Pre-Formal pathway joined with friends from Red 3 for lunchtime club fun!
They shared some lovely social time together, enjoyed listening to favourite stories (with The Gruffalo a clear favourite!) and had lots of fun playing with sensory toys together.

Pupils have been taking part in Music Therapy sessions with Nordoff and Robbins, led by our wonderful Music Therapist, Kim.

Music therapy supports communication by providing a shared, motivating way for pupils to interact, respond, and connect with others.
