Religious Education (RE) is part of the curriculum at Castle School. It provides pupils with opportunities to learn about religions, beliefs and different worldviews and to develop their understanding of themselves, others and the wider world.
Our RE curriculum is adapted to meet the individual needs of our pupils and is delivered across our different curriculum pathways. Learning is designed to be accessible and meaningful, using appropriate communication, sensory and practical approaches.
Through RE, pupils have opportunities to:
- learn about Christianity and other religions and beliefs;
- explore religious stories, celebrations, traditions and values;
- develop respect for different beliefs and viewpoints;
- explore ideas about identity, belonging and values;
- develop their communication, understanding and reflection.
We ensure that RE is inclusive and appropriate for all pupils, taking account of their individual needs, experiences and ways of communicating.
Right to Withdraw
Parents and carers have the right to request that their child is withdrawn from Religious Education.
Requests should be made in writing to the Headteacher. Parents and carers do not need to give a reason for their request.
If a pupil is withdrawn from RE, the school will discuss appropriate arrangements with the parent or carer.
Parents and carers are welcome to contact the school if they would like to discuss the RE curriculum before making a decision.
