Castle School caters for the needs of children and young people aged 4-19 years who have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties and we also have facilities, based on a TEACCH approach, for children with autism together with learning difficulties.

Purpose-built and state-of-the-art

Castle School is part of the Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust and is located within the Josephine Butler Campus sharing the building with the Bishop’s Primary School (Josephine Butler Campus) and Duke’s Secondary School. The children and young people receive their education from a dedicated and highly experienced specialist team of teachers and teaching assistants.

The school was purpose-built and opened in March 2012. We have a well-resourced learning environment which includes;

  • multi-sensory rooms
  • food technology room
  • swing room
  • ICT room fitted with switches and touch screens
  • trampoline room for rebound therapy and trampolining
  • 2 fully adapted minibuses
  • hydrotherapy pool
  • independent living area
