The Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools with pupils on roll that are:
- Eligible for Free School Meals, or have been, over time
- Those who are, or have been, Looked After children
- Have a parent in the Armed Services
The amount is variable each year, dependent on a range of factors and schools can decide how they wish to spend the Pupil Premium that they have been allocated, as they have the detailed understanding of the educational needs of the children within their responsibility.
Schools have the freedom to use the Premium,
‘In a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.’
This money can be used for support and resources to directly support these children, or indirectly through releasing time for Teachers and Teaching Assistants to provide small group or individual support.
