Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up Grant

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives state-funded schools, including special schools and alternative provision settings, additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).

Our current Year 7 have a very broad range of needs which include, severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, together with challenges around communication and interaction. At Castle School the Year 7 Catch Up Premium is used to support engagement and progress in literacy and numeracy.

Allocation for 2019-20

The allocation for 2019 – 20 was £1,104.

As a result of COVID 19 restrictions the year 7 catch up fund 19/20 was not fully implemented and the impact could not be fully measured. However, the allocation was used to provide classroom resources to support engagement in and interaction within communication and early maths activities.

Planned Expenditure for 2020 – 21

The allocation for 2020 – 21 is £1,184.

This allocation will be used to buy resources that will support transition activities for those pupils moving from Year 6 into Year 7.

In addition, a proportion of the funding will be used to purchase literacy resources and support transition resources, e.g. symbol supported packages for use with pupils transitioning between phases.
